FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can be sculpted out of ice?

Almost anything can be sculpted from ice. Keep in mind a sculpture must be deliverable to the event, needs to support itself, and will get smaller during the event.

How long does an ice sculpture last?

The average ice sculpture lasts 6 – 9 hours inside. A sculpture will last about 4 hours outdoors depending on sun and wind.

How is an ice sculpture made?

Our ice sculptures are carved from solid blocks of ice. We produce and use only premium quality crystal-clear blocks. It is possible to make ice sculptures from molds but they are not as clear and do not have the clean cuts that carved sculptures do. Our studio is temperature controlled in order to ensure that the integrity of the ice is maintained throughout the sculpting process. We use any number of methods such as chainsaws, specialty chisels, and CNC technology to shape and carve the ice.

Can color be added to an ice sculpture?

Yes! Adding color to your logo will greatly enhance the impact. Another option is to print a colored design such as a logo onto acetate which can then be frozen into the ice. Also available is colored lighting that greatly enhances the effect of an ice sculpture. We prefer not to actually die the ice; it prevents light from shining through and loses its crystalline, shimmery effect and can stain linens, rugs, etc…

How long does it take to make an ice sculpture?

Naturally the time it takes varies widely depending on the complexity, size and nature of the design. Three to twelve hours is the average time to create a high quality ice sculpture.

How far in advance should an order be placed?

Preferably 3 weeks or more. If your event is sooner than 3 weeks, please contact us and we will do our best to fit you into our schedule.

When should the ice sculpture be delivered?

Delivery should be scheduled approximately one to one and a half hours before guests are scheduled to arrive.

What happens when the ice sculpture melts?

As the sculpture melts it becomes more delicate. When we set up the sculpture, we provide drip trays and drain hoses. We advise you to provide a bucket or container for the water to drain into from the drip tray hose.

How much does an ice sculpture weigh?

A one-block ice sculpture can range from 150 pounds to 250 pounds. The average weight of a two-block ice sculpture is 300-500 pounds. It of course varies depending on the design.
